All About Monica

Monica Mancillas is a once upon a time salsa dancing, would-be rock star executive who is best known these days for her role as the “Mommy Monster”.

After receiving her BA in Anthropology from UC Berkeley, Monica moved to Los Angeles to get a closer look at those anthropoids known as musicians. She spent the next decade living and working amongst them while disguising herself as a twenty-something alt rock singer/songwriter.

Monica worked for nearly a decade as the Director of the Audio Engineering Department at Musicians Institute, as well as Vice President of the International Dance Academy, before ascending to the role of mother.

When she is not crafting picture books, short stories, or novels, Monica is busy teaching little fingers to play the piano. She shares a home in Southern California with her husband, her daughter, and an invisible fairy named Ella who, oddly enough, shares Monica’s passion for whimsical storytelling.

Monica’s work has been featured in literary journals Beautiful Losers and theSame, and has received first place in the Pacific Sun Flash Fiction Contest and Honorable Mention in Glimmertrain’s prestigious New Writer’s Award. She is also the winner of SCBWI-LA’s 2018 Andrea J. Loney Mentorship Contest.
